| Description | Letters from Thomas McDonnell, 5th & 12th Oct 1865. One (handwritten, plus a typewritten copy) is addressed to Major (Willoughby?) Brassey, Opotiki and appears to be an account of the battle of Tarata Pa, including the mention of a cavalry charge. The other letter (one handwritten & one a typewritten copy) is addressed to the Minister of Defence and refers to Ngati Awa & Te Whanau a Apanui expecting to be attacked by Te Arawa.
